The Forge Care Home is a purpose-built 80-bed care facility in Kidderminster, designed to provide comfort, dignity, and a supportive environment for its future residents. The development includes a full range of associated care facilities and reflects a commitment to high-quality care provision in Worcestershire.
Situated adjacent to the canal, the scheme integrates sensitively into its surroundings while delivering a modern, accessible care environment. Farrow Walsh are providing structural and civil engineering services to support the design and delivery of this important healthcare project, scheduled to commence construction in Summer 2025.
The site’s proximity to the canal introduced challenges for foundation and surface water management. In addition, approvals from the Canal & River Trust and coordination with highways authorities were required to ensure safe access and compliance with local regulations. The combination of a sensitive riverside location and regulatory oversight required careful planning and design from the outset.
Farrow Walsh designed traditional masonry pile foundations suitable for the canal-side ground conditions. A precast concrete plank superstructure was adopted to provide structural efficiency, speed of construction, and long-term durability. Surface water drainage was carefully designed to manage local flood risk, and close liaison with the Canal & River Trust and highway authorities ensured that access, safety, and regulatory requirements were fully integrated into the design.
Through a coordinated approach to foundations, superstructure, and site management, Farrow Walsh enabled a safe, resilient, and high-quality care home development on a technically sensitive site.
