Sheldon Court is an exciting development of 64 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments set within landscaped surroundings in the heart of Sheldon. The scheme brings new life to a well-connected East Birmingham location, offering modern, high-quality homes designed to combine character, convenience, and accessibility.
The project involves the change of use of three existing office buildings under the Elevate scheme, transforming them into contemporary residential apartments. Farrow Walsh provided structural and civil engineering services to support the conversion and ensure the buildings could successfully accommodate their new residential function.
The primary challenge was adapting three existing office blocks for residential use. A full structural assessment was required to determine whether the buildings could accommodate new layouts, revised loading requirements, and updated compliance standards. In addition, surface water flood risk considerations and existing underground drainage infrastructure required review and redesign to suit the proposed residential scheme.
Farrow Walsh carried out detailed structural assessments of the existing office buildings to evaluate their suitability for conversion. This informed the design approach, ensuring that the change of use could be delivered safely and efficiently. A surface water flood risk assessment was undertaken, and the underground drainage strategy was redesigned to align with the new residential requirements. Through coordinated structural appraisal and civil engineering design, Farrow Walsh enabled the successful transformation of underutilised office space into high-quality affordable homes.
